A plan, and an update for the living room.

The process..

When I’m designing a space, or really creating anything, I like to decide on what I want the final product to feel like. Then I can work backwards from there. It’s a fun puzzle to try and work in as many existing pieces as possible, and keep the project cost effective.

I want this space to feel warm, inviting, timeless, and light. I want there to be depth, and enough contrast to bring interest while staying cohesive and gentle on the eyes. I’ll add texture through the rug, window treatments, and fabrics. Art, redoing the fireplace surround, and refreshing the trim paint will freshen up the space.

My number one design crush is McGrath II. Suzanne and Lauren McGrath are a mother daughter duo who are known for, “designing homes that are rich in classic interior details that reference the past while embracing the lifestyles of today.” Here are some inspiration photos from them.

Turns out about 80% of what I’m envisioning for this space doesn’t exist. Okay..80% is a slight exaggeration. As opposed to seeing what’s available, and picking from those options..I do this thing where I create a perfect piece in my head with no care for reality. Then I’m not satisfied until I find or create it. That makes things tricky when you don’t have the budget for custom furniture, but it does result in a unique space. I’m keeping my eye on FB marketplace, and sourcing a few custom accessories to make the space feel special. Here’s a peak inside my scatterbrained scheming process of (mostly) screenshots, and un-styled phone shots of the two pieces I’ve found so far.

Here’s my list of work that needs to be done, items to source, as well as the price (or estimate) of each. I’m hoping to finish this project in time to have a Christmas party, which is an aggressive goal ha.

Okay..back to making meat loaf on this gloomy day.
